Questions To Ask Your Doctor About Hair Transplants

Filed under: Hair Transplant — normanh @ 3:03 pm

One of the most pre-occupying problems that men experience is that of hair loss. This is the more concerning when it happens in one’s teens.

The tell tale signs of a receding hairline start appearing and slow balding sets in at the crown. This progresses and if left untreated the hair loss will continue.

The phenomenon is popularly known as male pattern hair loss which occurs in 95% of males, half of whom experience it by the age of 50. It is believed that this male pattern hair loss is due to genes, hormones and aging.

So what can you do about it?

There are various ways to tackle hair loss. Medical approaches like pills and potions - or surgery. Hair transplants.

In a hair transplant, a strip of skin filled with follicular units from the back of the scalp is transposed to the area of the scalp that is balding, by delicately attaching the strip to the new area.

A wise step to take if considering hair transplants is to conduct some enquiries and talk with the doctor responsible before undergoing the procedure.

Here are some important questions you need to ask your hair transplant surgeon.

 Can you see some photos of before-and-after cases of hair transplants administered by him?

 Can you have some contact details of past patients of his (who had the same hair characteristics and needs as those of yours) to verify with them about their hair transplant experience and how they are doing?

 Is the hair transplant doctor dedicated solely to hair transplant operations?

 Is age critical to have hair transplants?

 Is there any chronic pain or discomfort after a hair transplant?

 Will any scarring be visible?

 What are the likely costs of the hair transplant required?

 How much time off work would one need to take for the procedure?

 How long after the procedure can you color your hair?

 Will there be any hair shedding after the procedure and if so for how long?

 Does hair transplant hurt?

 How many sessions of hair transplants will you need to achieve the density required?

 Will there be a loss of any existing hair after the transplant?

 Is the surgical procedure done with stereo microscopes?

 Does the hair transplant doctor use a single bladed knife to cut out the donor strip?

Such questions will help you iron out most of your hair transplant concerns and be able to go for your hair transplant operation, better informed and more relaxed.

When should I think about having a hair transplant?

Filed under: Hair Transplant — normanh @ 6:33 pm

Well if you’re like me…middle age and a hairline that’s not staying in the same place, you may be asking yourself, “When should I think about having a hair transplant?”

As far as I can tell there are basically two major factors that will determine if or when you should have a hair transplant.

The first factor that you need to find out for yourself is this: Is your hair loss permanent?

Obviously if your hair loss isn’t permanent then a hair transplant isn’t something for you to even consider. This article isn’t able to tell if your hair loss is permanent or possibly a temporary situation, only you and your doctor are in a position to determine this.

If you’re looking for an example of a possible temporary hair loss situation, here you go. Men with poor blood circulation can sometimes experience hair loss at a more rapid pace than the average male. If the blood circulation problem is improved, often times hair growth may improve for these individuals. Therefore no hair transplant would be needed.

Doctor and patient need to find the root cause of hair loss before any decision can be made as to when a hair tranplant would be appropriate. So your current health situation plays a major role in the life of your hair. Sometimes improving your health either through diet or excercise, or doctor approved medication will take the whole hair transplant question right out of your life.

The next big factor in determining when you should have a hair transplant, is to decide if having a hair transplant is going to actually improve your life. Some men can answer this question with a resounding “yes”, without hesitation.

But what are your reasons for looking at a hair transplant? If it’s simply because society thinks someone of your age should have hair, maybe that’s not a good enough reason.

Do you think you’ll be a more confident person with more hair? Do you think you’ll look more attractive to that special someone?

If you don’t really know if having a hair tranplant is going to change your life dramatically, then now is not the time to be considering one. As time goes on, when you can answer some of these questions with a strong yes, then it’s time to get more serious about a hair tranplant.

So if you and your doctor have come to the conclusion that your hair loss is permanent and you know without hesitation that a hair tranplant is going to change the way you view yourself, then a hair transplant is worth looking into. If you can’t determine the cause of your hair loss or the motivating reasons to have one done, you need to keep digging for answers before a hair tranplant is an option for you.
